He attended the University of Kansas with a major in photojournalism, and he completed his studies at the University of South California, graduating with a Master of Fine Arts in cinematography. For more than four decades, he has been a true master of photographic art. Gorman takes portraits of celebrities and works for magazines in his unique professional style. One of his strengths as a photographer lies in his collaboration with famous people, including music and cinema stars. At various stages of his career, he has photographed Sophia Loren, Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Lopez, Robert De Niro, and other celebrities. In the 1980s, Gorman expanded his scope and began to study human anatomy, at which point he started to do nude photography. Especially noteworthy are the photographs included in his books ‘In Their Youth’ and ‘Framed’—previously unpublished portraits of Andy Warhol, Iman, Leonardo DiCaprio, Viggo Mortensen, Johnny Depp, Rupert Everett, Keanu Reeves, Jude Law, and Tom Cruise. Greg Gorman has been widely recognized for his contribution to the world of photography with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Professional Photographers of America (2013), the Аchievement in Portraiture Award from The Lucie Foundation (2012), and the Pacific Design Center Stars of Design Award (2010). GRACE JONES IN HAT, LOS ANGELES
100X130 CM ARCHIVAL PIGMENT PRINT, MOUNTED ON DIBOND PANEL EDITION 6/10 PRINTED 2018 SIGNED ON LABEL BY THE AUTHOR IN PENCIL
This photograph was taken during one of the collaborative photo shoots with Grace Jones, which were usually made for film or musical tour advertising. They took many shots so that when an urgent need for photographs arose, Grace would not have to spend additional time on them. Usually, Greg and Grace made photographs just for pleasure. An attribute of this session and the main accent of the shot is the hat by Philip Treacy, Grace’s favorite designer. © Greg Gorman
